Our Mission

With members in over 100 countries, the European Respiratory Society (ERS) aims to alleviate suffering from respiratory disease and to promote lung health through research, knowledge sharing, medical and public education.

Meet the Experts: Congresses & Meetings

Meet the leading experts in lung disease at the annual Congress and other ERS-sponsored meetings. The  ERS Congress is Europe's biggest annual scientific gathering in respiratory medicine, with 17,000 participants and growing each year. This event provides a platform for important improvements in the treatment of lung diseases.

• Reduced Congress registration fee
  (dependant on membership category)
• Reduced registration rates for all ERS-sponsored meetings

Help Promote Research: ERS Publications

The ERS produces Europe's leading monthly journal devoted to lung disease the  European Respiratory Journal (ERJ). It contains high-level original peer-reviewed papers, clinical cases, topical reviews, letters and editorials. Helping to keep you informed of all the latest research & developments.

What do members get?
In addition to the ERJ members receive access to all these publications, either the print or electronic version (or both), depending on the level of membership:

Make Education a Priority & Learn with the ERS School

The ERS School mission is to encourage and support training and continuous medical education (CME) in the field of Respiratory medicine by:

• Organising Postgraduate Courses
• Actively developing e-learning programmes
• Providing educational research grants
• Organising interactive School Courses
• Providing CME accreditation for its activities

Encourage Knowledge Exchange: Scientific Assemblies

To facilitate exchange of information and knowledge among its members, the ERS has  10 Scientific Assemblies. They influence and guide the scientific direction of the Society by: 

• Disseminating Guidelines
• Working closely with other national and international respiratory societies
• Supporting Research Seminars on "hot" scientific topics
• Providing short- (up to 3 months) and long-term (12 months) training and research fellowships
• Sponsoring Task Forces
• Determining the annual Congress programme

• The opportunity to have your say and influence the Society's decisions

Stay Aware of EU Developments & Funding Opportunities: ERS Brussels

The ERS is dedicated to boosting public and political awareness on the importance of lung health. With many of our members living in the  European Union (EU) the ERS and its activities will be influenced by decisions made at this level. The ERS Brussels Office:

• Monitor the policy making process within the EU institutions in order to promote respiratory health
• Track new legislative proposals that are of interest to our members and provide EU institutions and politicians with information so new legislation reflects the aims of the ERS
• Keep you informed of the latest press reviews & funding opportunities from the European Commission
