This Assembly includes physicians of the highest quality with an extraordinary knowledge of the state-of-the art in this field. Within the ERS, they have extensive collaboration with most of the other Scientific Groups, and naturally with the Oncology Group. The Transplantation Group includes pulmonologists and respiratory specialists who have a particular interest in lung transplantation. One of the aims of the Assembly is to highlight problems related to the management of end-stage lung disease with a selection of patients for transplantation and the management of patients post-lung transplantation.

Group 08.01 Thoracic Surgery

Chair: Dragan R. Subotic
Secretary: Stefano Elia

This members of this Group include surgeons who have a special interest in an interdisciplinary approach towards various thoracic pathologies eventually requiring surgical intervention in terms of a diagnostic or a therapeutic procedure, such as pleuropulmonary or mediastinal infections, malignancies, trauma or other benign diseases of the lung, pleura or mediastinum. Our main aim is to encourage interaction, during ERS meetings, between surgeons and physicians engaged in the same field of research or clinical activity. In this respect, the Group focuses on the possibilities of interdisciplinary and interactive sessions during the annual Congress in order to create a culture of interdisciplinarity between surgical and non-surgical members of the Society. Our Group is also open to any initiatives which strengthen professional relationships between Group members not only during the congress, but also outside of the Congress activities.

Group 08.02 Transplantation

Secretary: Andrew Fisher

The members of this Group include pulmonologists/respiratory specialists who have a particular interest in lung transplantation. It is a small active group whose main objective is to interact with other major assemblies. This strategy is aimed at:

1. Highlighting problems related to the management of end-stage lung disease with a selection of patients for transplantation and the management of patients post-lung transplantation
2. Pulmonologists who may not be specifically focused in the area of lung transplantation
