The Research Fund aims to encourage a new generation of lung disease scientists to help support young researchers in their quest to understand and treat respiratory illnesses.
The ERS is pleased to announce that the 2008 Romain Pauwels Research Fund, supported by GlaxoSmithKline, is officially open to applicants.
Scientists, who must be members of the ERS and aged under 46 years at the time of the application deadline, may apply for a research grant from the Fund. The scope of the research to be considered for funding will be in the area of respiratory medicine and will specifically focus on clinical research on airways diseases, such as asthma and COPD.
The winner will receive €50,000 in order to carry out the research outlined in the successful application and to undertake the travelling lectureship commitments below. The Fund may be used for salaries, equipment, reagents and disposables or attendance to meetings.
Application submission deadline was February 21, 2008.
The Winner
Notification of selection will be sent in May 2008. The Winner of the Romain Pauwels Research Fund for 2008 will be presented with the award during the ERS Annual Congress in Berlin (October 4-8, 2008).
The winner each year will be expected to undertake the research as outlined in the application and, in addition, to undertake the following lectures (as a minimum) outlining his/her research work:
