Occupation and Epidemiology Best Paper Annual Award

With the support of GlaxoSmithKline (UK), awards will be given to the best papers published in 2007 (calendar year) in a peer-reviewed scientific journal with relevant authorship, including at least one member of Assembly 6.
A total of 8 copies of the article should be sent by March 28, 2008 to:

ERS Annual Award for Paediatric Respiratory Research in Europe

Two awards of €15,000 and €4,000, sponsored by AstraZeneca, will be given to successful candidates who have conducted original research during the previous two years in paediatric respiratory medicine. The award is open to any researcher currently working in Europe in paediatric respiratory medicine, who is under 40 years of age at the time of submission and has not previously won the 1st prize. Submissions will be judged by the Long Range Planning Committee of the ERS Paediatric Assembly.
The closing date for submission was January 31, 2008.

François Brenot Award

The François Brenot Award, a €1,000 award sponsored by AstraZeneca, is offered each year at the ERS Congress to the most promising young investigator in pulmonary vascular sciences, who is under 35 years of age and whose presentation is judged to be outstanding. The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

Interventional Pulmonology Travel Awards

Two travel grants of €1,000 each will be sponsored by Olympus Medical Systems Europa GmbH. The best abstracts submitted to the Berlin Congress will be selected by the Interventional Pulmonology Group for Oral Presentation.

The categories are:

• the best presentation by a researcher aged under 35 years; and
• the best overall presentation.

Priority will be given to researchers from Eastern and Central European countries. Award recipients will be selected from all abstracts submitted to the Interventional Pulmonology Group (1.4). The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

Noninvasive Ventilation Awards

Two awards of €1,500 each, sponsored by ResMed Australia, will be given to the best two abstracts submitted to the Noninvasive Ventilation Group. Applicants should be the first author and under 35 years of age when submitting their abstract. Award recipients will be selected from all abstracts submitted to the Noninvasive Ventilation Group (2.2).

The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

Cell and Molecular Biology Young Scientist Travel Awards

Five awards of €1,500 each, sponsored by AstraZeneca, will be awarded to young investigators (under 40 years of age) who have not previously received this award. Deadline for application was February 29, 2008.

Travel Grant for Sleep Medicine

 Three travel grants of €1,000, each sponsored by Weinmann Geräte für Medizin GmbH + Co KG, will be given to the best three abstracts submitted by young scientists and doctors working in the field of sleep medicine. Applications had to be carried out via the electronic abstract submission form. Applicants should be under 40 years of age at the time of abstract submission. The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

ERS Annual Inflammatory Airway Diseases Award

Three awards, €2,000, €1,000 and €500, sponsored by GlaxoSmithKline, will be given to the best three abstracts submitted to the Scientific Groups within the Inflammatory Airway Diseases and Clinical Allergy Assembly. Applicants should be the first author on their abstracts and under 40 years of age at the time of submission of their abstract. Applications must be carried out using the electronic abstract submission form; to apply, please indicate by checking the appropriate box when submitting an abstract.

The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

Paediatric Assembly: Lifetime Achievement Award

A €1,500 award, sponsored by AstraZeneca, will be given to a senior member of the Paediatric Assembly for services to research, teaching and education in Europe.

Submission deadline was January 31, 2008.

Paediatric Respiratory Epidemiology Abstract Award

Three awards of €1,000 each, sponsored by Schering AG, will be given to abstracts submitted by first authors aged under 40 years of age at the time of submission. Award recipients will be selected from all abstracts submitted to the Paediatric Respiratory Epidemiology Group (7.6).

The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

Lung Transplantation Best Abstract Award

Two awards of €3,000 (sponsored by Roche Switzerland and Sweden) and €2,000 (sponsored by Novartis Pharma Schweiz AG) will be given to the best abstracts submitted to the ERS Thoracic Surgery Assembly, Group 8.2, in recognition of advances in the field of lung transplantation. Award recipients will be selected from all abstracts submitted to Group 8.2.

The application deadline was February 21, 2008.

Allied Respiratory Professionals Congress Travel Grant

 Travel Grant Form

One grant of €750, sponsored by VIASYS Heathcare GmbH, and two grants of €700, each sponsored by ResMed UK & Ireland, are available for healthcare professionals (non-MD) working in respiratory medicine.

Providing that abstracts have been submitted to Assembly 9 to the ERS no later than February 21, 2008, please fill in and return the Travel Grant Form, as indicated.

Two awards of €1,500 each, sponsored by Cellestis Europe, will be given to the best two abstracts submitted to the Respiratory Infections Assembly. Applicants should be the first author and under 40 years of age at the time of submission of their abstract. Award recipients will be selected from all abstracts submitted to the Respiratory Infections Assembly (10).

Abstract submission deadline was February 21, 2008.

Young Researcher Award: Respiratory Infection Aetiological Diagnosis

One grant of €1,500, sponsored by Brahms, is available to the first author of an excellent abstract who is under 35 years of age at the time of abstract submission. Award recipients will be selected from all abstracts submitted to the Respiratory Infections Assembly (10).
