ERC Advanced Researcher Grant
FP7 call for "ERC Advanced Researcher Grant" under the Life Sciences sub-domain of the FP7 "Ideas" Programme. Deadline: 22 April 2008
The European Research Council (ERC) funded by FP7 promotes creativity and risk-taking in basic research in new and emerging fields, as well as "high-risk/high-gain" research ideas. The ERC offers attractive long-term grants which will give top researchers the freedom and flexibility they need to pursue the pioneering research of their choice.
The ERC Advanced Grants aim to support established independent research leaders at all career stages (no age limit) and with an outstanding track record. The amount of funding per grant is a maximum of EUR 3.5 million for a period of up to five years. Being highly competitive, and awarded on the sole criterion of excellence without restriction to particular areas of research, these grants will support the very best of European research, adding value to research investments at the national level.

"Ideas" and Frontier Research
To support frontier research, the Ideas programme will be implemented by the European Research Council (ERC) as a pan-European funding organisation designed to support the best science and scholarship across all fields of research through an open and direct competition. Excellence is the sole evaluation criterion and will be used to evaluate the principal investigator, the research project and the research environment.
The ERC will attract and retain the most talented scientists, supporting risk-taking and high-impact research, promoting world-class scientific research in new, fast-emerging fields.
There will be two types of ERC grants, operating on a bottom-up basis across all fields of research. ERC Starting Grants are intended to support the independent careers of outstanding researchers at the stage of establishing their first research team or programme, whatever their nationality. ERC Advanced Grants are intended to support excellent frontier research by leading established researchers, whatever their nationality.
