Educational Aims
- To provide students with knowledge of the current state of the art in the epidemiology and natural history of PE
- To demonstrate, with practical examples, how clinical presentations should raise suspicions of PE
- To demonstrate the practical application of structured methods for noninvasive diagnosis of PE
- To review the available results of pharmacological studies for the treatment of PE and the current status of ongoing studies
- To define rules with which to manage patients with PE in the medium and long term

Trainees and clinicians involved in both emergency and non-emergency medicine
Course Goals
By the end of the course participants will have a detailed knowledge of:
- The state-of-the-art literature concerning pathophysiology, diagnosis and therapy of PE
- The background to managing patients with a suspicion of PE
- The background to managing patients with confirmed diagnosis of PE
