Pharmaceutical Review

In 2001 the European Commisison started a review of the pharmaceutical legislation that touched upon issues such as information to patients, authorisation and supervision of medicinal products, regulatory data protection and 'pharmaco-vigilance'.

The main goals of the Pharmaceutical Review are:

  • to guarantee a high level of public health;
  • to complete the internal market in pharmaceutical products;
  • to increase transparency;
  • to prepare for EU enlargement; and
  • to favour competitiveness of the industry.

In 2007 the European Commisison launched a series of consultations relating to the pharmaceuticals review. The ERS has responded to these consultations.
