Educational Award
This Award is presented in honour of a European clinician, scientist, allied medical professional or individual in any other profession, who has made a contribution of extraordinary magnitude to education in respiratory medicine, or fields allied to respiratory medicine, at European or International level. This year, the ERS is proud to present the Educational Award to Professor John Gibson.

European Lung Foundation Award
In 2006, the ELF is honoured to give this award to Professor Albert Osterhaus, one of the world's leading virologists, in recognition of his groundbreaking research into the viruses responsible for avian flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and human metapneumovirus and for working closely with the World Health Organization (WHO) on important schemes for the prevention and containment of respiratory viral infections.
