Young children from dog-owning families have lower risk of respiratory allergies
Small children who have a dog living in the home are less at risk of becoming sensitised to inhaled allergens, concludes a major prospective study that monitored 9,000 German children from birth to age six years.
Patient-centred education reduces further emergency department attendance for acute severe asthma
Researchers from the UK have recently found that patient-centred education, as opposed to a standard patient education style, significantly reduces the number of times asthma patients re-attend the emergency department as a result of a worsening of their condition.
Sleep apnoea has negative effects on your insulin sensitivity
Cessation of breathing during sleep (apnoea) is common among snorers and, like diabetes, is related to obesity. A study conducted in Sweden has found that insulin levels were increased in patients with sleep apnoea, even when obesity is taken into account.
