Overview

GRACE is a Network of Excellence focusing on the complex and controversial field of community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections (CA-LRTI), which is one of the leading reasons for seeking medical care. The promiscuous use of antibiotics to treatment of CA-LRTI accounts for a major part of the community burden of antibiotic use and contributes dramatically to the rising prevalence of resistance among major human pathogens.

This workshop is specifically focused on current topics in primary care dealing with lower respiratory tract infections.  The main topics include;

  • Host susceptibility to infections.
  • Recent advances in LRTI: a review of literature
  • Preview of the new ERS/ESCMID LRTI Guidelines
  • Improving the patient care pathway in the management of LRTI
  • H1N1 epidemic: its impact and management
  • LRTI management: current approaches to education and training - is it fit for the purpose?

Target audience

  • Primary care and hospital physicians
  • Researchers and public health specialists interested in better management of community-acquired LRTI
  • Junior staff members and trainees are strongly encouraged to attend
