Outgoing ERS Research Director Professor Sven-Erik Dahlén has described the function as “at the heart of ERS work”.
Says Professor Dahlén, who is due to relinquish the post in September 2010: “Being ERS Research Director is both demanding and rewarding: demanding, because it is a key role within the Scientific Committee, rewarding because I found myself right at the heart of ERS work, overseeing various funding programmes devised to support scientific inquiry and research.”
ERS is now welcoming applications for his replacement; the deadline is 1 June to take up the post in September 2010. The function of ERS Research Director carries considerable prestige and responsibility. It requires commitment, a proven track record in research and research grant review, as well as vision and a strong sense of priorities.
Working in collaboration with the Scientific Committee, the ERS Research Director is responsible for ERS Fellowships and other funding programmes as well as Sponsored Awards and Grants. Mandatory participation in four Scientific Committee meetings at various locations in Europe is fully covered by ERS.
